Level 1: Light Soiling (Standard Maintenance Clean) This level represents a house that hasn’t been cleaned in about a week. The soiling is purely surface-level and easy to manage. Visual Cues: Fine dust settled on dark wood surfaces (like the coffee table), a few crumbs on the carpet, and maybe one or two minor muddy footprints near the entryway. The home is lived-in, but generally tidy.
Level 2: Moderate Soiling (Deep Clean) The time frame is several weeks or months without deep cleaning, introducing accumulated, sticky grime that resists simple dusting. Visual Cues: The minimal items seen in the previous living room are replaced by a stack of dirty mail, unwashed mugs, and widespread crumbs on the countertops. Critically, a visible brown, sticky grease film is now accumulating on the range hood and the tiled backsplash. Spilled, dried liquids mark the floor. Clutter is beginning to restrict pathways.
Level 3: Heavy Soiling (Deep Clean) This level indicates long-term neglect—six months to a year or more. We transition from “grime” to a “breakdown of sanitation,” emphasizing structural staining and visual odor. Visual Cues: The shower and grout lines are covered in deep mineral stains, orange soap scum, and widespread black mildew. Thick brown scale coats the faucet. Clutter has turned into overflowing garbage, including discarded personal care items and crumpled tissues spilling onto the floor. Wet, dirty laundry is piled in the corner. The environment looks visibly unsanitary.
Level 4: Extreme Soiling (Deep Clean) This is the result of years of neglect or active hoarding, creating a physically hazardous and visually toxic environment. Visual Cues: The standard clutter and furniture of previous stages are gone, completely buried under deep, chaotic mountains of rotting garbage, discarded electronics, old clothes, and visible animal waste. Walls are severely water-damaged with peeling paint and large patches of black mold growth. Windows are obscured by grime, and structural debris litters the floor.
